How to stop or restrict the chat function in Zoom

The chat function includes a chat function for sending and receiving messages during a meeting and a chat function for sending and receiving messages using the Zoom app outside the meeting. These features are turned on by default. If you want to restrict the chat function, you need to restrict the two file transmission functions as needed.

How to restrict the chat function of the Zoom app

  • Sign in to the Zoom portal site with an administrator account.
  • Click [Account Management] .
  • Click [ IM Management ] .
  • Select the [ IM Settings ] tab and click [Security] .
  • Uncheck (gray) the “Allow users to chat with other users” toggle.
  • When the confirmation window for setting changes pops up, click [Turn off].
  • Turn on (blue) the key mark to the right of the toggle. * By turning on the key mark, it will be enforced in the entire account, and each user cannot change this setting.

The app is now disabled for chatting in the entire account. Next, restrict chat features during the meeting.

 

How to restrict chat features during a meeting

  • Sign in to the Zoom portal site with an administrator account.
  • Click [Account Management] .
  • Click [ Account Settings ] .
  • [ (Basic) at the meeting ] and click, and scroll down.
  • Set the [ Chat ] toggle to off (gray).
  • If you also want to restrict one-on-one private chat, also turn off “private chat”.
  • When the confirmation window for setting changes pops up, click [Turn off].
  • Turn on (blue) the key mark to the right of the toggle. * By turning on the key mark, it will be enforced in the entire account, and each user cannot change this setting.
