Screen and Energy Saver With Zoom Rooms

On both Mac and PC, Zoom Rooms provides digital signage options, as well as a setting for operating times. Therefore, Zoom Rooms should not be used in Sleep/Power Saver mode, or in Screen Saver mode on any computer.

Windows

Disable Screen Saver:

  • The first step is to open the Control Panel
  • The display icon can be found by double-clicking it
  • Click on the screen saver tab on the left side of the screen
  • As a screen saver option, select (None) as the option to use.

Disable Energy Saver Mode:

Windows 7

Windows 8

Windows 10

Scheduled Restart:

  1. You can find the Task Scheduler in the Windows Start Menu by typing taskschd.msc in Start Search and clicking the Enter key to open it.
  2. You can create a basic task by clicking on the Create Basic Task button in the right panel.
  3. Click on the Next button once you have chosen a name for it and added a description if you like.
  4. You can select Weekly as the starting date for the task when asked when you want it to begin. Please click the Next button to continue.
  5. The start time and date should be selected. (For example, on a Sunday between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.)
  6. As soon as you click Next, you will be taken to the Actions page where you can take action. By selecting Start a program, you will be able to begin the program.
  7. There is an option to place “shutdown” under “Program/Script:” and you have the choice of adding shutdown/r or shutdown /g to the options you select. It is necessary to type 60 instead of 0 in this field if you would like the shutdown to begin after, for instance, 60 seconds.
  8. When you are finished reviewing all the information, click on Finish to complete the process. There will be a shutdown of your computer on the day and at the time that you have specified.

macOS

Disable Screen Saver:

  • In the top left hand corner of the screen, click on the Apple menu and then select System Preferences from the drop-down menu
  • You can then select the Screen Saver tab once you have clicked on the Desktop & Screen Saver panel
  • Make sure that No Screen Saver is selected

Disable Energy Saver Mode:

  • On your desktop, go to Spotlight Search in the upper right corner and you will find a list of searches
  • You can find it under “Energy Saver”
  • Make sure that the computers and displays are set to never go to sleep
  • Ensure that Power Nap is not selected in the Power Nap settings

Scheduled Restart:

As a second recommendation, we recommend that you schedule a periodic restart of your Mac Mini (e.g., bi-weekly, monthly) as a preventative measure.

  • Go to System Preferences > Energy Saver
  • Click on Schedule on the bottom right
  • Select Restart > Weekly > Time

The Zoom Rooms can be configured to meet the needs of your business and help you collaborate in a variety of ways. Not only can you share HD videos and audio, you can also share wireless content, whiteboard, chat, and even screen share using a variety of different devices, in addition to HD video and audio sharing.

In order to display an image or a video as the background for the Zoom Room meeting, you will be able to use the Virtual Background feature that allows you to display an image or a video as the background. Whether you are in front of a green screen or not, Zoom can detect that there is a difference in you and the background of your picture if you are in front of a green screen.

Depending on the device that you are using to join the meeting, you can use the Virtual Background feature either with a green screen behind you, or without one. Using either one involves more system requirements, but if you use the virtual background without a green screen, then you will have a much better experience.
