Frequently asked questions about India’s e-mandate directive
There will be an e-mandate directive coming into effect for recurring payments using India Bank Cards from October 1, 2021, which is a directive taken by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The next time they make a recurring payment using an India bank debit or credit card will be on October 1, 2021, when they should use PayNow for their recurring payment.
Why are these changes happening?
Continuing payments or subscriptions are also covered by the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) electronic mandate directive to the issuing banks, card networks, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), and Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPI) issuers. It is anticipated that the directive will be implemented at the beginning of October 2021 (Indian Standard Time).
Who will this change affect?
In response to this directive, everyone who uses a debit or credit card issued by an Indian bank as a means of payment (including 3DS cards) may be affected.
