How to Calculate video streams for VDI clients in Zoom

It is possible for Zoom VDI Client users to select 25 or 49 participants in maximum per screen to be displayed in Gallery View in the Zoom VDI Client video settings. If users run on a computer that is capable of displaying additional video streams, then the option for 49 maximum participants is enabled for them as long as they are using one of those machines.

Prerequisites for changing meeting view settings

Using Gallery View, you can display up to 49 thumbnails on a single page:

  • Zoom Meeting and the VDI Plugin need to be version 5.9.6 or higher to take part in a Zoom Meeting
  • There is a setting in the desktop client video settings that limits the number of participants that can be seen per screen in Gallery View to 49 participants.
Note: Your computer will not be able to use this option if it does not meet the CPU requirements.
  • In the case of a single monitor, the following processors are supported:
    • Intel i5
      • 4 cores or higher
      • 4th generation or higher
    • Intel i7, i9, Xeon
      • 2 cores or higher
    • Intel Atom
      • 6 cores or higher
    • Other Intel processors
      • 6 cores or higher
      • 3.0GHz or higher
    • AMD Ryzen 5 series
  • Dual monitors are supported by the following processors
    • Intel i5
      • 4 cores or higher
      • 6th generation or higher
      • 2.0GHz or higher
    • Intel i7, i9, Xeon
      • 4 cores or higher
    • Intel Atom
      • 6 cores or higher
      • 1.6GHz frequency of higher; OR
      • 8 cores or higher
    • Processors from other Intel companies
      • 8 cores or higher
      • 3.0GHz or higher; OR
      • 12 cores or higher
    • AMD Ryzen 7/9 series

How to calculate the number of video streams based on hardware

Two cores and frequency < 2G

3*3 or 9 video streams

AMD 2 cores and the cpu name has “x-2”, for example: “GX-217”

3*2 or 6 video streams

Two cores and frequency >= 2G. (Intel i5/i7 < 2G will also work)

5*5 or 25 video streams

Four cores and more

5*5 or 25 video streams
