Limitations of chat announcements
There are a number of chat features that work with chat announcements, including:
- As announcements, you can post images, GIFs, files, and code snippets
- An announcement can be edited or deleted at any time (this function is only available to the user who posted the announcement).
- You can mark announcements with a star by clicking on them
- Assign an unread status to an announcement
- The notification settings for announcements can be adjusted according to your preferences
- Sharing an announcement with another user or channel is as simple as copying and pasting the announcement
Chat announcements do not work with the following chat features:
- Comment on an announcement by adding a reply or reaction (emoji)
Note: A user who posts an announcement will also be included in this category. In other words, the poster of the announcement will not be able to respond to it.
Note: It is also possible to create channels that have restricted posting permissions as an alternative to announcements.
How to enable chat announcements
Account owners or administrators of a chat account will need to enable chat announcements in the account portal and select users who are able to make announcements in chat. There is a limit of 50 users who can make announcements, and you can add as many as you like.
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal by entering your email address and password.
- Select Account Management from the navigation menu, then select IM Management from the drop-down list.
- IM Settings can be accessed by clicking on the tab.
- The Visibility section can be found by scrolling down to the bottom of the page.
- To enable Announcements, click on the toggle button next to the Announcements section.
- If you want to add users who will be able to post announcements, you can click on the plus sign (+).
- You can search for users by entering their names or emails, and then select the user who you want.
- Add the item by clicking on the Add button.
A channel called Announcements will be created by Zoom as part of the process. You can only post announcements if you have added the users to your account. Users who do not have access to this channel will not be able to post there.
