Canceling your Zoom Events ticket and refund policies

This post was most recently updated on July 22nd, 2022

It is possible to cancel your ticket for a free event at any time prior to the event start time.

There are some paid events that allow tickets to be refunded if you cancel your ticket at least one hour before the event begins if you wish to get a full refund. The host has the final decision whether to grant or deny your refund request if you cancel your registration outside of the cancellation period.

This article covers:

  • How to cancel registration immediately after ticket purchase
  • How to cancel your ticket
  • How to request a refund after the cancellation cutoff time
  • How ticket purchases are refunded
  • Partial refund policy

Prerequisites for canceling a Zoom Events ticket

  • Zoom desktop client:
    • Windows: 5.7.6 or higher
    • MacOS: 5.7.6 or higher
  • Zoom mobile client
    • IOS: 5.7.6 or higher
    • Android: 5.7.6 or higher
  • Basic user

Notes:

  • There is a dependency on the Webview package for Windows; it supports Zoom Events, but attendees may experience a blank lobby experience due to the fact that version 5.7.6 depends on the Webview package for Windows.
  • We strongly recommend that attendees update their Zoom Desktop Client/Mobile Application to the latest version in order to take advantage of the latest Zoom Events and Webinar features.

How to cancel your ticket immediately after purchasing a ticket

Note: Event hosts who accept cancellations appear to offer the option to cancel tickets.

Immediately after purchasing a ticket, you can cancel your registration:

  1. After you have made your payment, click View Tickets on the confirmation page.
  2. Select Cancel Order from the left-hand menu.
  3. Confirm your cancellation by clicking Yes, Cancel Order.
  4. Then click OK.

How to cancel your ticket

Note: When the host accepts cancellations, the option to cancel a ticket appears. It is the host’s final decision whether to accept or deny a ticket cancellation request if there is no cancellation policy in place for the event. Cancellation requests are not obligated to be approved by the host. Single/series events can be canceled by the host.

Ticket sales for paid events that are canceled by the host will be refunded in full.

There is a possibility for cancellation of some events if there are ticket sales for some of them. Single sessions and event series can be refunded partially through Zoom Events. Attendees can now request partial refunds from event organizers. You can cancel some of the event series‘ occurrences and partially refund the amount for those occurrences at the event level. Ticket cancellations and refunds are possible for some tickets within an order.

Attendees can also get a full refund if the host approves the request for a cancellation, which can happen as soon as an hour before the event begins or as long as 14 days after the event ends. The host is the sole person responsible for making refunds for cancellations that do not fall within the cancellation policy. There is no refund request or action for an event after 14 days have passed since the event has ended. As we discuss in more detail in Zoom Events Terms of Use, you may not initiate or request a refund for an event once 14 days have passed.

Note: The amount of your refund may differ from the amount you originally paid for a ticket if you paid for it in a foreign currency. This will depend on the exchange rate at the time of the purchase and the amount you were refunded.

Cancel your registration

  1. Become a member of Zoom Events by signing in.
  2. You will find the Tickets link in the upper right corner of your screen.
  3. The next time you want to cancel your ticket for a particular event, click View Order next to the relevant event in the list of your registered events.
  4. If you wish to cancel your order, you can do so as follows:
    • Click on the Cancel Order button on the left side of the page if you wish to cancel your entire registration.
    • On the order details page, click Cancel Tickets in order to cancel the entire series of tickets that are part of the order. Select Entire Series from the drop-down menu.
    • The order details page of the order may be accessed by clicking Cancel Ticket under the order details tab to cancel specific occurrences of a series ticket (at the ticket level).
      1. The number of occurrences should be selected.
The following pop-up window will appear when you click on the Ticket for Occurrences in an Event Series button.
      2. Under Select Occurrences, you will be asked to enter the dates of the occurrences you would like to cancel in the pop-up window.
    • The specific event occurrence ticket that you wish to cancel should be located on the order details page, then click the button labelled Cancel Ticket next to it to cancel the specific event occurrence ticket.
      Note:
    • Those tickets will only be canceled for the particular event occurrences in your order, but the rest of your order will still remain active.
  5. Please confirm the cancellation of the ticket by clicking Yes, Cancel Ticket if a confirmation dialog box appears.

If an attendee does not cancel within the cancellation policy period of the event, he or she can ask for a refund from the host. It is up to the host to decide whether to issue a refund outside of the cancellation policy. It is not possible to request or initiate a refund for a ticket or event once 14 days have passed since the event has ended.

Note: It is still possible for you to cancel your order(s) if some tickets are voided by the host.

How ticket purchases are refunded

As soon as the refund request is approved, you (the purchaser) will receive a refund and the ticket will be void.

In the case where you have paid for an event with the same currency that your credit or debit card was issued in-usually that of the country where you opened/registered the card-and have requested a refund, and your refund request has been accepted, you will receive the same refund regardless of the currency that the host charges for tickets.

Example: When you pay $10.00 USD for a ticket, you use a USD-issued credit card. The exact amount you paid for the item will always be refunded if the refund request is approved-in this case, $10.00 USD.

Note: Based on the exchange rate at the time of the purchase and refund, you may receive a refund more or less than what you originally paid for a foreign currency ticket.

Partial refund policy

Note: For now, partial refunds will only be given for single events/event series.

A partial refund policy is also an option for additional scenarios in addition to a full refund policy. Partially refunded tickets and events can be configured by the host. Ticket sales can force the host to cancel some events in a series if they sell out. Depending on the situation, the host can initiate a 50% refund.

A single event order can be cancelled for some tickets. If you want to cancel one event from the entire series, you can also do so.

User tickets will be credited automatically when a host cancels an event series or one of its occurrences.
