Zoom webinars and meetings can be streamed live to your Facebook timeline, a group page, or a page that you’re an administrator for on Facebook, so that your Facebook friends can participate in them. Using Zoom or Facebook Live, participants can join your event or viewers can watch and comment.

Note:

• As of April 2018, Facebook‘s API has changed and some users are no longer able to livestream to groups. You can configure Facebook Livestream as a custom service if you are unable to livestream your webinar to Facebook.

Prerequisites for livestreaming meetings or webinars on Facebook

Streaming for meetings

• Account type: Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise
• There is a license for the host
• Client for Zoom desktop
  • Version 5.0.0 or higher required for Windows
  • The MacOS version must be 5.0.0 or higher
• Facebook allows live streaming

Streaming for webinars

• An account can be categorized as a Professional, Business, Educational, or Enterprise account
• A Webinar license is assigned to the host of the webinar
• Client for Zoom’s desktop application
  • Version 5.0.0 or higher is required for Windows
  • Version 5.0.0 or higher is required for macOS
• Facebook has enabled live streaming for its users

How to enable Facebook livestreaming for meetings

Account

You can make the following changes to Facebook so that you can livestream meetings to all members of your organization:

1. Become an administrator of your Zoom account by logging in to the Zoom web portal and editing the settings for your account.
2. Select Account Management from the navigation menu and then click Account Settings from the Account Management menu.
3. Go to the Meetings tab and click on it.
4. It is important that the option Allow livestreaming of meetings is enabled under the In Meeting (Advanced) section.
5. If you would like to connect with Facebook, select the checkbox.
6. The changes will be saved as soon as you click Save.
7. Click the lock icon to confirm a setting has been made mandatory for all users in your account, if you wish to make this setting mandatory for all users in your account.

Group

If you would like to livestream meetings on Facebook to all members of a specific group, you need to take the following steps:

1. As an administrator, you have the ability to edit groups on the Zoom web portal once you are logged in as an administrator.
2. Select User Management from the navigation menu and then select Groups from the drop-down menu.
3. You can edit the name of a group by clicking on the name of the group.
4. Go to the Meetings tab and click it.
5. Make sure that you enable Livestreaming of meetings under the Advanced tab of the In Meeting (Advanced) section.
6. The Facebook checkbox should be selected.
7. The changes will be saved as soon as you click Save.
   Note:
8. There may be cases where the option in question has been grayed out and therefore needs to be changed at the account level if it is grayed out.
9. Click the Lock icon and then click Lock to confirm that you want this setting to be mandatory for all users in this group after you have clicked the lock icon to confirm your choice.

User

The following steps need to be followed in order for Facebook meetings to be streamed live:

1. To access the Zoom web portal, you will need to sign in.
2. Click on the Settings button.
3. Go to the Meetings tab and click on it.
4. The option to Allow livestreaming of meetings can be found under In Meeting (Advanced).
5. You will need to select the Facebook checkbox.
6. The changes will be saved once you click the Save button.
   Note:
7. You need to contact your Zoom administrator if the option that you wish to change is grayed out, as it has been blocked either at the group or account level, and you need to contact them to gain access.

How to enable Facebook livestreaming for webinars

Account

Using Facebook Live, you can allow all members of your team to livestream webinars on your organization’s page.

1. It is possible to edit account settings by logging into the Zoom web portal in the role of an administrator who is given the authority to do so.
2. In the Account Management section, click on Account Settings and then click on Account Settings.
3. Click on the Meetings tab on the left side of the screen.
4. If the option Allow livestreaming of webinars is checked under In Meeting (Advanced), you should be able to watch the webinar live.
5. Check the box next to the Facebook checkbox.
6. The changes will be saved as soon as you click the Save button.
7. In your account settings, click the lock icon and then click Lock to confirm this setting. If you want it to be mandatory for all users, click the lock icon and then click Lock.

Group

A webinar can be livestreamed on Facebook by all members of a specific group by using the following procedure:

1. Please make sure you are logged in as an administrator who has the privilege of editing groups on the Zoom web portal.
2. Click on the User Management option, and then click on the Group Management option.
3. You can edit the name of the group by clicking on the name of the group.
4. Go to the Meetings tab and click on it.
5. You will find the ability to allow livestreaming of webinars under the In Meeting (Advanced) menu.
6. If you want to use Facebook, click the checkbox next to it.
7. To save the changes, click on the Save button at the bottom of the page.
   Note:
8. It needs to be changed at the account level if the option is grayed out.
9. By clicking the lock icon and then clicking Lock, you can force this setting for all members of this group.

User

You can livestream your Facebook webinars by following these steps:

1. Zoom’s web portal can be accessed by signing in.
2. Go to Settings.
3. To access the Meetings tab, click here.
4. You will need to enable live streaming of webinars under In Meeting (Advanced).
5. You can select Facebook by checking the box.
6. Once the changes have been made, click Save.
   Note:
7. Please be aware that if the option is grayed out, it has been locked at either the group or account level (or both). If you would like to change any of these settings, you should contact your Zoom administrator.

How to start a livestream for Facebook?

Direct streaming from a meeting or webinar

• The webinar or meeting has begun.
• On the control panel for a meeting or webinar, click More.

• On Facebook, click Live.
  If you are not already logged in to Facebook, your default browser will open and prompt you to sign in.
• Log in to Facebook.
  After the next version of the Graph API is released, Facebook will display the following message: “This endpoint is deprecated. Please use the Live API instead.”
• You can livestream anywhere on Facebook if you ignore this message.
• Proceed to the next step.
  Notes:
  • Zoom will ensure that your Facebook live streaming will not be disrupted in an upcoming release.
  • Clear your browser’s cache, and try again if you are unable to see the live stream.
  • Facebook Live Producer is not supported by Zoom. The new Live Producer notification should be dismissed if you see it.
• Once Facebook has loaded the live stream, click Go Live to start the broadcast.
• Once the Zoom client has informed you that your webinar has gone live on Facebook, you can begin the meeting.

In the Zoom client, click the Stop Streaming icon when you end a webinar or meeting.

Streaming to Facebook via custom live streaming

• Stream your meeting or webinar using Custom Live Streaming.
• Get access to your webinar or meeting.
• To configure the live stream settings, scroll to the bottom of the page in the Live Streaming section.
• Sign in to Facebook in another tab or window
• Select Live Video on your timeline, group, or page where you wish to live stream.

• Select Schedule Live Video Event from the left-side panel.
• Select the date, time, format, and privacy settings for your event, as well as the description.
• Proceed to the next step.
• Make any necessary changes to your event settings, including adding a cover photo.
• Click the Create Event button.
• Upload the Facebook post URL to the Zoom live streaming page.
• Upcoming Live Videos and Events can be found in the left-side panel.
• Click Set Up Live Video next to the event you just created.
• Stream Key and Server URL can be found in the Get Started section of the page.
• Copy the Server URL and Stream Key from Facebook and paste them into the Server URL and Stream Key fields on Zoom where they should be placed.
• After adding the live stream service to Zoom, click the Save button at the bottom of the window.
• When you are ready to begin your Zoom meeting or webinar, you will be prompted to start it.
• Select Live on Custom Live Streaming Service in the meeting controls by clicking More in the meeting controls.

Tips for live streaming on Facebook

Processing time

Approximately 20 seconds pass before participants who view the same content on Zoom watch it on Facebook.

Audio echo

The audio on your computer will be delayed by approximately 20 seconds if you have the Facebook window open. The video will be muted if you are viewing and replying to comments on the Facebook page. Click the speaker icon at the bottom right of the live stream.

Video layout

Livestream participants on Facebook can view your meeting or webinar differently depending on the video layout.

• Speaker view:
• The video window will display only the video of the speaker. Video windows will switch between speakers if there are multiple speakers.
• Gallery view:
• In Zoom, participants who have their video on are displayed as thumbnails. Participants watching on Facebook won’t see any participant’s video if their video is turned off.
  Note:
• If there are several speakers with their videos active, we recommend using Gallery view.

If the speaker has a video on, a thumbnail of their video appears when screen sharing. Participants on Facebook can only view shared content if the speaker’s video is off.

How to check Facebook permissions

Facebook Timeline streams and Facebook Pages and Groups can be streamed, if you have appropriate permissions.

To check your permissions for a Facebook page

To stream to a Facebook page, you must be an administrator or editor. You will not be able to Live Stream if you are a moderator, analyst, or advertiser.

1. Become a member of Facebook.
2. You can stream to a particular page by searching for it and selecting it.
3. To change the page roles, click the Page Roles link along the left side of the page settings.
4. A list of all the roles assigned to this page will be shown under Existing Page Roles. Streaming to a page is only available to admins and moderators.

To check your permissions for a Facebook group

A group’s admin permissions are required in order to stream. Facebook Group members and moderators cannot live stream.

1. Become a member of Facebook.
2. You can stream to a group by searching for it and selecting it.
3. Click on Members.
4. You can see a list of all the administrators and moderators who are assigned to this page under Admins & Moderators. Streaming to a page is only available to admins.
5. Then click the … button to the right of your name.
   • The option to Remove as Moderator will be available if you are a moderator for the group. Live streaming is not possible.
   • A group admin will have the option of changing to the Moderator role or removing themselves from the admin role. Live streaming will be available.

Adding Zoom to your group will also be required.

1. Go to Facebook and log in.
2. You can stream to any group you choose by searching for it and selecting it.
3. Click Settings in the left-hand panel.
4. Click the edit pencil next to Apps in the Manage Advanced Settings section.
5. You can add apps by clicking Add Apps.
6. Add Zoom by searching for it, clicking on it, and then clicking Add.
7. Ensure Zoom has access to this Facebook group by following the on-screen instructions.
