Sending videos in Zoom Chat

This post was most recently updated on July 23rd, 2022

Chat allows team members to easily communicate, sharing messages, images, files, and videos directly within the chat window (including audio). Streamlining your workflow within Zoom is made even easier by not having to open the video in another program beyond Zoom (in many cases).

Prerequisites for sending video files in a chat message

  • Client for Zoom on the desktop
    • The latest version of Windows is 5.7.3 or higher
    • A Mac running 5.7.3 or higher is required
  • App for Zoom on mobile devices
    • The Android version must be 5.7.3 or higher
    • The iOS version must be 5.7.3 or higher
  • Admins can enable chat
  • The following file types and sizes are supported:
    • M4V, M4A, and MOV
    • A maximum file size of 30 MB is allowed

Notes:

  • The videos you send from the mobile app will be transcoded into MP4 files (H.264 compression and ACC stereo audio) with a maximum resolution of 720p and you will be able to see the same in full screen.
  • It is possible for account owners and admins to set up file transfer controls so that their users will only be able to send and receive files with a specific file type and file size limit.
