How to mute your microphone when joining a Zoom meeting
By enabling the Mute my microphone when joining a meeting option, you can give the meeting participant the option to mute their microphone by default when joining a meeting. You must manually enable the audio to unmute your microphone when you join a meeting with the option enabled. Once this setting is enabled, your microphone will be disabled/muted upon joining. I would recommend using this setting if you participate in a meeting in a loud environment or if you join a meeting late. Setting up this option can prevent noise and disruptions during meetings.

Disable audio by default
When joining a meeting, I would like to be able to Mute my microphone:
- Access the Zoom desktop client by logging in with your Zoom account.
- Once you are in the Zoom client, click on the Settings tab.
- Select the Audio option.
- Make sure that the checkbox for Mute my microphone when joining a meeting is selected.
Disable video or audio by default when joining a meeting
By clicking the Join button, you can also turn off the audio or video before joining a meeting. To do so, follow the instructions below.
Before joining a meeting, you will need to disable audio and video:
- Join a Zoom meeting by logging in to the Zoom desktop client.
- In the audio connection section, click the box that reads Do not connect to audio.
- You have the option of disabling your video by checking the Turn off my video box if you want to do so.
- Click the Join button.

Disable audio by default
The following procedure must be followed to enable Always Mute My Microphone (Android) or Mute My Microphone (iOS):
- Join the Zoom mobile app by signing in with your Zoom account.
- Tap the Settings tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Select Meetings from the list.
- For Apple users the toggle will be on Mute My Microphone (Android) , and for Android users it will be Always Muted.

By clicking the Join button, you can also turn off the audio or video before joining a meeting. To do so, follow the instructions below.
Before joining a meeting, you will need to disable audio and video:
- Join a Zoom meeting by signing in to the Zoom mobile app.
- Tap the Don’t Connect To Audio function under the Join Options option on the Zoom mobile app.
- Tap the Turn Off My Video toggle to turn off your video. (Optional) Tap the off toggle to turn off your video.
- After that, tap Join.
