Channel privileges for external users in Zoom App

As shown in the table below, external users have fewer channel privileges in comparison with internal users, as shown in the following example.

Note: An account administrator or channel administrator can enable or disable the privileges marked with an asterisk (*) by making sure that they are enabled. For more information on a particular privilege, simply click on the embedded link for that privilege.

Privilege Internal


This will allow you to view the complete profile information of members (name, photo, phone number, extension number, department, job title, location, etc.)

Note: A member’s full profile information can be accessed by external members if the member is a contact of the external member. A member’s profile name and photo are the only things external members are able to see if they are not a contact of that member.

See bots used in the channel
Create private or channels in the internal user’s account  
in which you can join any public or private channel created in the account of the internal user

Note: Channel admins can enable the privilege of allowing members to invite external users to a channel by setting the channel’s privacy settings in a way that allows them to do so.

The internal user’s account has a list of public channels in it that can be searched.  
Creating a private channel on the forum is a great way to interact with other members

Note: It is the responsibility of the channel admin to grant this privilege to external members by using the channel’s privacy settings.

Set up channel settings and remove members from channels

Note: The channel admin is the only person who has access to these privileges. Assigning the role of channel admin to an external user is possible.

Leave a channel


Members can be directly contacted through direct messaging

Note: It is possible for external members to send messages to contacts that are external members.

If you belong to the same channel, you can start a group chat with your fellow members

Note: Group chats can be started by external members with contacts who are members of the group.

They will be able to see the history of chats and files shared with them in the channels they have access to * *
In the chat room, you can use @all or @[user] if you would like to notify all the members or an individual member of

Meetings and phone

Join a group meeting with all members or start your own group meeting with all members.
Organize a meeting between all members on a one-to-one basis or schedule a Zoom call together with members with the same channels

Note: In order to meet one-on-one with external members who are contacts, they may opt to use Zoom Phone or begin a one-on-one call.


Apps and integrations

Make use of slash commands and shortcuts to send messages
as well as creating, updating, or connecting to apps and custom integrations that belong to internal users’ accounts on channels that you own
