How to Test audio before Zoom Meetings in Zoom App
Joining the meeting audio can be done in two different ways: by joining the meeting via computer or by joining the meeting via telephone. The following sections will help you test your audio before and after you join a meeting if you wish to do so.
There is also the option of joining a test meeting if you would like to test your audio and become familiar with the controls of the meeting.

- A microphone, such as one that is designed into a smartphone, a USB microphone, or an inline microphone that is built into headphones
- You can either use a speaker or headphones to listen to music

Testing audio before joining a meeting
You can test your speaker and microphone before joining a meeting by clicking the following links if you have not enabled the setting to join the meeting automatically by computer audio:
- You can test your speaker and microphone after joining a meeting by clicking on Test Speaker and Microphone.
- It is possible to test your speakers during the meeting by opening a pop-up window. The ringtone will not be heard if you use the drop-down menu or if you click No to switch speakers until the ringtone can be heard. Please click on the Yes button if you wish to proceed to the microphone test.
- Using the drop-down menu will allow you to select a microphone or you can select No to switch to the other microphone to listen to the reply if you do not hear one. When you hear the replay, make sure you click Yes when you hear it.
- In order to exit the speaker and microphone test, you will need to click on Join with Computer audio.
- It is possible to join the test meeting by joining it with computer audio by clicking Join with Computer Audio.
Testing audio using audio settings
In order to test the audio during or before a meeting, you should navigate to your audio settings and follow these steps:
In preparation for a meeting
- Open the Zoom client and sign in to it.
- You can change your profile settings by clicking your profile picture and then clicking Settings.
- To access the audio tab, click the Audio button.
- If you want to test the speaker or microphone on your computer, follow the sections below.
In the course of a meeting
In the event that you are already in a meeting, you will be able to access your audio settings and test your audio.
- To mute/unmute a participant, you would need to click the arrow next to Mute/Unmute in the meeting controls.
- You can open your audio settings by clicking the Audio Options button.
Checking your computer speakers
- You can play a test tone by clicking on the Test Speaker button.
- The best way to hear it is to choose a different speaker from the menu or adjust the volume if you are not able to hear it.

Adjusting your computer microphone
- Whenever Zoom is picking up audio from a microphone, you will see a green bar indicating the inputting level moving in the Microphone section.
- You can test your microphone by clicking on the Test Mic button.
- As soon as you start recording your audio, your recording will begin. As soon as you are done, click the Recording button and it will play back what you have recorded. The input level can also be adjusted or another microphone can be selected from the menu.
- It is possible to have Zoom automatically adjust the input volume when you check the Automatically adjust microphone settings box.

Troubleshooting your microphone
- The microphone cannot be accessed on Mac OS 10.14 Mojave or earlier because your operating system permissions do not allow Zoom to access the microphone. To ensure Zoom has access to the microphone, check your operating system permissions. - Using the Windows search box, you can navigate to the Microphone Privacy settings in case you are not able to access the microphone on Windows 10. Zoom may be able to access your microphone if you turn on the Allow apps to access your microphone toggle, and then allow it access. Testing audio using audio settings
Before or during a meeting, you can perform an audio test by navigating to your audio settings:In preparation for a meeting

- If you click on your profile picture, you will be able to access your settings.
- You can test your speaker or microphone by following the sections below.

Checking your computer speakers
- You can play a sound by clicking the Test Speaker button.
- Choose a different speaker from the menu if you cannot hear it or adjust the volume of the output if you cannot hear it.

Adjusting your computer microphone
- As Zoom is picking up audio, you will see a blue Input Level bar moving when you are in the microphone section.
- It is possible to select another microphone from the menu if Zoom is unable to pick up your microphone, or to adjust the input level if Zoom is not picking up your microphone.
- It is possible for Zoom to automatically adjust the input volume if you select the option Automatically adjust microphone settings.

How to test and adjust audio on mobile devices
Android
Joining with device audio in a meeting
- It is possible that you will be asked to grant access to your microphone if this is your first Zoom meeting that you have ever attended.
- You will be asked when you join the meeting which audio option you would like to use to join the meeting’s audio. The options are as follows:
- Call via Device Audio: Provides an online connection for audio.
- Dial in:The Zoom Meeting provides the option of dialing into the Zoom Meeting via a telephone line.
- Call My Phone: Joins the meeting by making a call to your phone number. In order to host a meeting, the meeting host must have an audio plan.
- You are able to open the prompt again by tapping Audio if you choose Cancel instead of Cancelling.
- The microphone icon will appear in the bottom left-hand corner of your device after you have connected in order to mute and unmute the microphone.
- You have the option to disconnect audio from the call by tapping More and then Disconnect Audio if you need to join the audio with a different method.
iOS
Joining with device audio in a meeting
- You will be asked to give access to your microphone if this is your first Zoom meeting that you have joined.
- Upon joining the meeting, you will be asked to join the audio when you join the meeting.
- As far as audio options are concerned, you will be able to choose from:
- Call using Internet Audio: Through the use of the internet, audio can be connected through the use of
- Dial in: Provides you with the option of dialing into the Zoom Meeting via the telephone in order to participate
- Call My Phone: Joins the meeting by calling your phone number. An audio plan is required for the host of the meeting in order to participate in the meeting
- By tapping Join Audio again on the prompt, you will be able to go back to the prompt if you choose Cancel.
- In the bottom left corner of the screen, you will see the microphone icon which you can use to mute or unmute the recording once you are connected.
- By tapping More and then Disconnect Audio, you can disconnect the audio if you would like to reconnect the audio with a different method.
