How to join Zoom Meeting by Phone

Know How to Join a Zoom meeting using a traditional phone. If you would like to join a Zoom meeting or webinar, you can do so by dialing in to the meeting without the use of a computer. This can be very useful in the following situations:

  • PC / there is no microphone or speakers to the Mac
  • Do not have a smartphone (iOS or Android) in the movement and
  • Can not connect to the network with video and VoIP / computer audio

 

Although we have to pay numbers available for all plans, there are some countries/regions where pay numbers are not open. In order to use unpaid pay numbers, you need to add on the premium audio option. You can find the dial-in number for each country at the link below.

If the international call dial-in number (Zoom Inc. site)
the number is not displayed or it is marked with an asterisk (***) instead of the number, that number can not be used for the account currently logged in. I mean. To use this number, you need the add-on of the above premium audio option.

 

You must meet the following requirements in order to participate in a Zoom call by phone

  • Your hosting account is a Pro subscription or higher (subscribing to the Audio Plan add-on for toll-free phone numbers)
  • To join a meeting or webinar by phone, please follow these steps:
    1. Participants can join the conference by telephone when the host account allows it (Audio Type user setting)
  • Follow these steps if you wish to join a scheduled meeting by telephone:
    1. It is possible for the participants to join the host’s scheduled meeting by phone (Audio setting in schedule meeting settings)
  • The following steps can be followed to join a webinar by phone:
    1. Using the host account, you will be able to access and join webinars through the telephone (You will be able to dial into the webinar through the above numbers from the host account)
    2. In order for participants to join the host’s webinar, there is an option to dial-in (Audio setting in the webinar settings schedule)

 

Zoom dial-in numbers

For those who have a Zoom plan, toll numbers are available for many countries that are included as part of the plan. Subscribers to Zoom’s audio plans also have the option of calling Zoom’s toll-free number or its additional toll-free number. A host’s audio subscription and settings determine which dial-in numbers are available for him/her.

There is a more extensive list of Zoom international dial-in numbers available for your convenience if your meeting invite does not provide an international dial-in number. If you don’t see a number listed or if there is an asterisk (***) in place of some numbers, that means that that number is not available on the account you are currently logged into.

It is possible to participate in a meeting or webinar using Zoom Phone without having to incur a charge if you have a Zoom Phone license.

 

How to join a Zoom meeting or webinar by phone

 

Joining a meeting by phone on desktop

 

Joining a meeting by phone on desktop with Windows or macOS

  1. It will appear that you are automatically invited to join the audio when you join a Zoom meeting. Click on the Join Audio button in meeting controls if the prompt does not appear or you have closed it.
    Note:  During a webinar, you may automatically be connected to computer audio if you are participating. Just press the up arrow and select Phone Audio from the drop down menu.
  2. Click on the Phone Call tab.
    Take note:  You can also join a Zoom meeting by having your phone number dialed into Zoom if you subscribe to the call out add-on.
  3. To call in, please follow these instructions:
    1. The location of your call will appear in the drop-down menu under the Country/Region option.
    2. You can call the number provided in the drop-down menu.
    3. All you need to do is enter the meeting ID followed by the #.
    4. All you need to do is enter the meeting ID followed by the #.
    5. When prompted, enter the passcode followed by the #.

You can leave the computer audio and join the phone call if you were automatically joined by computer audio:

  1. Select Mute / Unmute by clicking on the up arrow next to it.
  2. When the computer audio has finished playing, click Leave.
  3. Once the phone number has appeared, click it and follow the prompts.

 

 

If you need to join by phone while joining computer audio

If you automatically join computer audio, you can exit computer audio and join by phone.

  • Click the arrow next to Mute/Unmute.
  • Click Leave Computer Audio.

  • Click [Join Audio], refer to the above “To join by phone ” and dial in according to the prompt.

Joining a meeting by phone on desktop with Linux OS

  1. It will automatically prompt you to join the audio after you have joined a Zoom meeting. Alternatively, you can click Join Audio from within the meeting controls if this prompt does not appear or you have closed it out.
    Note:
  2.  You may be able to participate in a webinar by joining computer audio automatically if you are joining a webinar. You will need to click on the up arrow next to Audio Settings and then select Phone Audio.
  3. Once this has been done, click on Phone Call.
  4. When the dialing instructions are displayed, please follow them as follows:
    1. If you are calling from a particular country or region, please select it from the drop-down menu.
    2. Once you select a number, you will be connected.
    3. Simply enter your meeting ID followed by the number.
    4. Enter your participant ID followed by the number.
    5. You will be prompted to enter a passcode in the next step.

You can leave the computer audio and join the phone call if you were automatically joined by computer audio:

  1. To mute or unmute the sound, click the arrow next to Mute/Unmute.
  2. To leave the computer audio, click the Leave Computer Audio button.
  3. You can then choose to make a phone call by clicking Phone Call.

Joining a meeting by phone on desktop with Web

  1. In your web browser, after you join the Zoom meeting, you will be prompted to join the audio automatically once you have joined the meeting. You can select Join Audio in the meeting controls if this prompt does not appear or if it is closed.
  2. Please dial in using the following dial in instructions:
    • Use the drop-down menu to select the country from which you are calling.
    • Select one of the numbers provided in the drop-down menu.
    • After you have entered your meeting ID, you will have to enter the meeting number.
    • After entering your meeting ID, you need to enter the meeting number.
    • You may be asked to enter a passcode, if that is the case.

Join a meeting by phone on mobile

 

Join a meeting by iPhone on mobile 

  • Tap Dial In.

  • Tap the arrow at the top to select the country you’re calling from.

  • Tap the number you want to call.

  • Tap Dial.

  • Tap Call.
  • To return to the Zoom app, swipe up on the home bar (iPhone X) or press the home button (iPhone 8 or older), then tap the Zoom icon.

  • When you leave the meeting, you will have the option to Leave Meeting or Leave Meeting with Telephone Connected, to stay dialed into the meeting after leaving from the Zoom app.

If you joined device audio automatically, you can leave the computer audio and join by phone:

  • Tap More.

  • Tap Disconnect Audio.

Join a meeting by iPad on mobile

  1. In order to join an audio conversation automatically, you will be prompted after joining a Zoom meeting. To join a meeting using audio, tap the Join Audio option in the meeting controls if the prompt is not visible or it has been closed.
  2. Click on Dial In to join the meeting.
  3. If the country you’re calling from is not selected by default, tap the arrow at the top of the screen to select the country you’re calling from.
  4. To make a call, just follow these instructions:
    • Click on the number of your choice on this page.
    • After entering the meeting ID, follow it up with the #.
    • After entering the meeting ID, follow it up with the #.
    • After entering the meeting ID, follow it up with the #.
    • Tap Close after dialing in.

During the phone call, you can stop the computer audio if you joined by device audio automatically:

  1. Please tap on “More”.
  2. Tap on “Disconnect Audio” to disconnect the audio.
  3. Once the audio is disconnected, follow the instructions above to join the audio.

Join a meeting by Android on mobile

You can join a meeting or webinar via phone only if you follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you dial a number in your country. You will be charged your carrier’s rates if you dial a toll-free number. The dial-in numbers for international participants can be found on your meeting invitation, or you can view a complete list online.
  2. It will prompt you to enter the meeting ID – the nine (9) digit, ten (10) digit, or eleven (11) digit identifier provided to you by the host, followed by a number.
  3. In the event the meeting has not started already and you are joining before the host has been enabled, you will be prompted to enter the host key to start the meeting, or press # to wait if you are a participant.
  4. During the registration process, you will be asked to enter your unique participant ID. It only applies if you have joined through a computer or mobile device or if you are participating in a webinar as a panelist. To jump to the next slide press #.
  5. In some cases, you may be asked to enter the meeting passcode followed by a number. You will find the meeting passcode in the meeting invitation you receive from the meeting host.

It is possible to link your computer or mobile device session to the phone session, as long as you enter the Participant ID when you join by computer or mobile device later. The video will be displayed when you speak on the phone. Once you are in the meeting, you can type #Participant ID# on your phone to enter your participant ID.

Participants will be able to control their phones using their smartphones

DTMF tones can be entered via your phone’s dial pad while you are participating in a Zoom meeting in the following ways:

  • *6 – Mute and unmute the device
  • *9 – Raise/lower hand

To dial in audio

  1. Join Zoom Meeting
  2. You will be asked to automatically join the audio, but if this prompt does not appear or you exit , tap Audio in the meeting controls.

Tap Dial-In .

Follow the instructions for dialing in.
By default, “United States” is selected.

Tap the top arrow to select the country of origin. Choose Country . Tap the phone number you want to call. Tap When leaving a meeting you have the following options:

  • Simply leave the meeting.
  • Telephone leaves the meeting while connected.
  • Rejoin the meeting by dial-in after leaving Zoom.

You can enter the password to the meeting using your dial pad if you wish to do so

The meeting may require a password, in which case a numeric password specific to the phone will be generated. You will find this password in the invitation below the meeting ID and the dial-in numbers that appear on the invitation.

How to host phone-only meetings

 

Your phone can be used to join and start Zoom meetings, and DTMF tones can be used to control the meeting. It is important to note that you will need to enter your host key, found in your profile, in order to be recognized as the host

Note: Using join before host and joining only from your telephone will mean that you will not be able to host or have access to host controls if you enable join before host. You should not enable join before host if you need to host a meeting from your smartphone with full host controls.

As a host, you should consider the following points when joining by phone

  • If you schedule the meeting from a basic account and two or more participants enter the meeting, or if you do not bind your phone and computer/mobile device sessions to the participants ID, the meeting will end after forty minutes with a thirty-minute warning notice.
  • It is important to note, however, that for the meeting to last for an unlimited period of time, a Licensed user, on a Pro account or higher will need to schedule the meeting.
  • Depending on the account type and the add-on that has been assigned to the user account, the number of phones that can participate in a Zoom meeting or webinar will vary.
    • Licensed User: 100 Dial In Users
    • Licensed + Large Meeting 200: 200 Dial In Users
    • Licensed + Large Meeting 300: 300 Dial In Users
    • Licensed + Large Meeting 500: 500 Dial In Users
    • Licensed + Large Meeting 1000: 1000 Dial In Users
    • Licensed + Webinar 500: 500 Dial In Users
    • Licensed + Webinar 1000: 1000 Dial In Users
    • Licensed + Webinar 3000 and above: 1984 Dial In Users

The meeting host can use the phone to control the meeting

In addition to the Host Key required to start the meeting, DTMF tones on your dial pad will allow you to enter control settings when you enter them. When you press ** on your telephone, you will hear all available commands.

  • *4 – End the meeting for all participants
  • *5 – Lock or Unlock the meeting
  • *6 – Mute or unmute yourself
  • *7 – Start or Stop Recording
    Note: When recording begins or is stopped, all those present in the meeting will receive an email notification.
  • *# – Hear the number of participants in the meeting
  • 99 – Mute or unmute all participants

Frequently Asked Questions

Use the Meeting ID to join the meeting

In the email or calendar invitation that you sent to your meeting attendees, you will find and need to note the Meeting ID (see the example email invitation below). To join the meeting, open Zoom in your web browser or app and tap Join Meeting. Write down the Meeting ID that you receive in your email invitation or appointment schedule. Tap the Join Meeting button once you have entered the Meeting ID.

 
Zoom now has a feature which allows participants to join a meeting using their telephones. You will need to start the Zoom meeting and then you will need to enter the meeting ID (either from the host or the participant) in order to join a Zoom meeting using an audio conference (telephone).
Although you can use Zoom without downloading this, we recommend that you download it if you want to save yourself the hassle of downloading it at the end of the day. If you have the app downloaded on your phone or computer, you can simply click ‘New Meeting’ in order to start a call as soon as possible.
Zoom will request that you download the Zoom app if you do not already have it on your phone or tablet if you are using an Android or Apple device. Once you click on that link, Zoom will prompt you to download the Zoom app. If you open Zoom on your phone’s browser, you will be asked to join the meeting via the Zoom app, or to download the Zoom app. Choose Install to install the Zoom app.
Note:In order to participate in Zoom meetings, you do not need to download the software before joining, but you may have limited access to its functionality if you join using the browser.
 
Can I join a Zoom meeting without a Zoom account? If you are merely participating in Zoom Meetings, then setting up a Zoom account is not necessary. If you are invited to a meeting by someone else, you can join as a participant without creating an account.
Join from a Meeting ID
From the Zoom desktop app, go to the homepage of the app and then select the “Join” option. To join a meeting if you are not logged in, simply click “Join a Meeting” from the sign-in page. The “Meeting ID or Personal Link Name” will appear in a pop-up window where you can enter that information. Then, click “Join” to join the meeting.
 
Log in to your Zoom account by opening the Zoom client. Select Meetings from the list of options. If you are looking for a meeting invitation, you will need to select the upcoming meeting in the Upcoming tab. Then, click Copy Invitation.
