How to follow the presenter’s pointer in Zoom

If a presentation is shared with a higher resolution than yours by a presenter, the pointer can be automatically followed on your desktop client when the presenter shares a screen. This is particularly useful when you can only see part of the shared screen, which allows you to keep your attention on the important part of it, which can help you stay focused.

Frequently Asked Questions

A presenter may share his screen during a meeting by clicking on “View Options” and selecting “Side-by-Side Mode” in order to share the screen. The zoom screen will have this information at the top of the screen, so you will be able to see it easily. It is important to note that the shared screen can be seen on the left side and the speaker can be seen on the right side of the screen. In order to adjust the size of each view, you can slide the separator to the left or right.

When a screen share is started, how can we automatically switch from side-by-side mode to normal mode?
  1. Launch the Zoom desktop client and sign in with your Zoom account.
  2. Click on the picture of your profile in the Profile section, then click on the Settings link just below it.
  3. As soon as you click the Share Screen button, a new tab will appear on the screen.
  4. To enable the side-by-side mode, you need to check the box next to Side-by-Side Mode on the right-hand side of the screen. Whenever a participant starts sharing their screen with Zoom, Zoom switches to a side-by-side mode so that both users can see each other’s screens simultaneously, so that users can see each other’s screens as they share their screens in Zoom.
It is possible to use a laser pointer embedded in the Zoom application during your presentations and you will be able to use it as well during your presentations to enhance your presentation. To see the laser pointer, however, you need to share your screen with other people in the meeting in order to access it. Therefore, if you want to see the laser pointer, you need to go to the tab located at the bottom of the window and click on the ‘Share Screen’ option.

Using Zoom’s mobile app (iOS and Android), setup the gallery view in order to see all of your photos.

The New Meeting button is located on the Home screen, and from there you can either start a meeting or join an existing meeting if you are already on the Home screen. The speaker view is automatically used by the mobile app as the second step. By swiping left on the speaker window, you will be able to switch to the gallery view.

For those who wish to switch from Active Speaker View to Gallery View in the Zoom window, they can tap Switch to Gallery View located in the upper-left corner of the Zoom window. The controls will appear if you tap your screen so that they appear if they do not appear automatically. The Gallery View can only be switched on if a minimum of two participants are present in the meeting. As soon as you click on this, you will be taken to the gallery view.
