Start a Zoom Meeting as a Host 


Zoom is among the top conferencing tools, allowing people to connect, collaborate, and communicate remotely. The platform lets you send audio messages, texts, images, and files.

The company was started in 2011 and launched in 2013 by Eric Yuan, a former engineer at Cisco. Its growth was notably high in 2020 when the pandemic caused a global shutdown. An estimated 300 million users were logging onto the platform by October 2020. So, how do you start a Zoom meeting as a host?

You can host a Zoom meeting with video on, without a video on, or with only screen sharing. Moreover, you can use Zoom on your web browser, mobile app, or desktop client.

Hosting a Zoom Meeting Using a Web Browser

The first way of hosting a meeting is by a web browser. Below are the steps you will need to take:

  1. Go to the Zoom Website, then sign in to your account.
  2. Go to “Host a Meeting” and choose the meeting you would like to host. As mentioned earlier, you can choose to host the meeting with Screen Share only, with the video on or off.
  3. In your browser, you will see a dialogue box. Here, click open zoom meeting.
  4. If you don’t see the open Zoom meeting option, click Launch Meeting.
  5. Go to Test Speaker and Microphone and follow the prompts on the screen to confirm that your microphone and speaker are functioning perfectly.
  6. Select Join with Computer Audio after you are done testing your speaker and microphone.
  7. Copy the invite link by hitting Copy Link.
  8. Share the link with the participants
  9. You can also invite participants by going to the Participants icon or the Invite Others icon. Alternatively, you can press Alt + I to ask other individuals to the meeting.
  10. Fill in the addresses of the recipients and send the email.
  11. Participants will receive a link.
  12. When participants click the link, a notification will appear on your screen. You can let in participants by clicking the Admit button.
  13. To end the meeting, choose Leave Meeting or End Meeting for All.

Hosting a Meeting Using Zoom Desktop Client

The second way of hosting a Zoom meeting is using the Desktop Client. You will have to download the Zoom Desktop client and then follow the prompts below:

  1. Launch the Zoom Desktop Client.
  2. Sign in and provide your details. Alternatively, you can sign in with Facebook, Google, or SSO.
  3. Sign in again.
  4. Select how you want to start the meeting.
  5. Click the button Join with Computer Audio.
  6. Invite participants.
  7. Fill in the details of your participants and send an email.
  8. Admit the participants when they click the link.
  9. Leave Meeting or End Meeting for All, and the participants will be notified.

Hosting a Zoom Meeting on Mobile

You can also host a Zoom meeting on your android mobile device. Here’s how to go about it:

  1. Launch the app.
  2. Sign in and provide your details.
  3. Alternatively, you can sign in with Facebook, Google, or SSO
  4. Zoom should launch after a short moment. If the app does not launch automatically, tap Launch Zoom.
  5. Click New Meeting.
  6. Select a preferred way of conducting the meeting and Personal ID setting.
  7. Start the meeting.
  8. Choose whether you want to allow Zoom to record videos and take pictures.
  9. You can add others to the meeting by clicking Participants.
  10. Click Invite and choose how you want to send invitations

Scheduling a Zoom Meeting

You might want to host a Zoom meeting at a later date. Below is how you can schedule a meeting:

  1. Sign into your account.
  2. Select Schedule a Meeting.
  3. Enter the meeting’s topic.
  4. Select a date and time.
  5. Click the drop-down menu and choose a duration.
  6. Choose your time zone,
  7. If the meeting will be recurring, click the checkbox and provide the necessary information.
  8. Generate the ID automatically or use the Personal Meeting ID.
  9. Create a password.
  10. Leave the Waiting Room.
  11. Select your preferred settings for the meeting.
  12. Save.


Zoom is flexible and allows you to host meetings using various devices. You can schedule a meeting on your PC and attend it on your phone if you are away from home.
