Elevating or inviting a call to a Zoom meeting
You can easily convert or elevate a phone call using Zoom Phone from a phone call into a Zoom meeting by using the Zoom Phone app. There is no limitation to the other user being on a desktop program, a Zoom mobile app, an external phone service, etc.
You can switch between a Zoom conference call and a Zoom meeting if you are in a conference call while in a Zoom conference call.
Prerequisites for elevating or inviting a call to a Zoom meeting
- If you use Windows, macOS, or Linux, then Zoom desktop client version 5.2.0 or higher is required
- As well as the Zoom mobile app for Android or iOS, version 5.2.0 or higher
- With the Zoom Phone licence
- For the desktop client or mobile application to raise a call using the meeting URL, version 5.2.0 or later is required
- End-to-end encryption (E2EE) is turned off during meetings
- Using the policy setting setup by your administrator, you can raise a call to a meeting
It is not possible to elevate a Zoom meeting from the desk phones that are provided by the company. Using Call Flip, you can convert a Zoom call to a desktop or mobile app using this article’s instructions. You can also use Zoom Flip to switch between the desktop and mobile application.

A call can be elevated to a meeting by elevating it to an instant meeting
- Access Zoom on your desktop or mobile device by signing in to your Zoom account.
- When you use Zoom Phone, you can make and receive phone calls.
- When you use Zoom Phone, you can click on or tap Meet to start the call.
Note :- The other call participant will bypass the waiting room if the waiting room is enabled for everyone and there is a bypass option enabled.
- Merge the two calls if you received a call from a caller while on the current call, and then elevate it to a Zoom meeting. In the absence of merging, you will only be able to start the meeting from the active call.
What happens to the other participant when you elevate a call to an instant meeting
In the following scenario, the scenario will vary depending on whether or not the other participant is using Zoom Phone (desktop client, mobile app) or a local telephone line.
- Zoom Phone (desktop client or mobile app):
- By accepting the invitation, the other caller will be able to join the meeting. Should the other caller refuse, the call will be ended.
- Zoom Phone (provisioned desk phone):
- Once the other party joins the meeting with the audio from the phone, the meeting will begin automatically.
- External phone service:
- When the other party joins the meeting, the meeting will begin automatically.
- Three-way call:
- Three-way calls are still subject to the above points.
In an instant meeting or Zoom Phone call, The Waiting Room is currently disabled by default. The Security option in the In-Meeting Controls can only be used to enable Waiting Room in this type of meeting.
How to invite a call to a meeting by using the meeting URL
By entering the URL of the meeting, you can also call into an existing scheduled or instant meeting.
- Open the Zoom mobile app or desktop client.
- Use Zoom Phone to place or receive calls.
- When in a call, click More.
- To join a meeting, click or tap the Invite button.
- The meeting ID will appear.
- Tap Invite.
Note: - For the original call participant, you will need to enter the waiting room password or a passcode to join the scheduled meeting if waiting room or passcode are enabled for the meeting.

How do you activate a Zoom call?
