  1. Launch the Zoom desktop client.
  2. Click the Join Meeting button.

  4. Enter the name you would like the meeting to display.
  5. Tick the box to turn off the video.
  6. Then click Join.

Android | iOS

  1. Open Zoom on your mobile device.
  2. Tap the Join Meeting button.
  3. Identify the meeting by entering the ID number.
  4. Provide the name you would like displayed in the meeting.
  5. Select Turn off my video.
  6. Then tap Join.

Participants must be able to join the meeting from their browser.

  1. Find the meeting invitation link in your mail or on your calendar.
  2. Join the meeting by clicking the link.
    You will be asked to open or download the application from your web browser in a pop-up window.
  3. Press Cancel to close the window.
  4. Scroll down and click the join button.
    A new page will appear.
  5. You will need to grant Zoom microphone and camera access to your device.
  6. Please enter your name here to join the meeting.
  7. If you would like, select the Keep my name in future meetings box.
  8. When the video has finished playing, click Stop Video.
  9. Then click Join.

Set your name before joining a meeting

It is imperative that you create a Zoom account and then set your display name in your profile if you have not yet joined a Zoom meeting, otherwise you may need to join a test meeting and set your name when joining that test meeting. There is no problem if you want to join a Zoom meeting with another name if you need to do this.

Your display name must be set in your profile before you join a Zoom meeting so that the correct display name appears.

  1. Launch Zoom.
  2. Click to join.
  3. Enter the meeting ID number.
  4. Type in your name to appear in the meeting.
  5. Choose the option for future meetings to remember my name.
  6. You will be asked to join the meeting.

Android | iOS

  1. Install Zoom on your mobile device.
  2. Simply tap the Join Meeting button.
  3. You’ll need the meeting’s ID number.
  4. Type your name as you wish to appear in the meeting.
  5. Press Join.

A link to “Join from your browser” must be enabled for meeting hosts.

  1. In your email or calendar message, locate the meeting invitation link.
  2. You may join the meeting by clicking the join link.
    A pop-up window will appear on your web browser prompting you to open or download the application.
  3. Press Cancel to close the window.
  4. Click the Join button from your browser at the bottom of the page.
    The page will be redirected to you.
  5. Allow Zoom access to your microphone and camera by clicking Allow.
  6. Enter the name of the meeting you want to attend.
  7. Select the option to remember your name for future meetings if you wish.
  8. You will then be able to join the meeting.

Rename yourself during a meeting

While in a meeting, you can change your display name while in a meeting, giving you the opportunity to have a different display name than when you joined the meeting.

Note:

Participants should be allowed to rename themselves so that they can change their display name during the course of a meeting.

Changing your display name is as simple as following these steps.

  1. Simply click on the Participants tab in the meeting controls.
  2. Hover over your name to see more information.
  3. The Rename button will appear.
  4. Enter your new name in the dialog box.
  5. Click the Rename button.
