How to Telemetry Data events processed by the Zoom client

Telemetry Data is a term used to describe information sent by the Zoom client software running on an end user’s device to Zoom regarding how Zoom is being used or performing (for example, what is being used and how the system is configured). As with most remote meeting and teleconferencing solutions, Zoom collects Telemetry Data following a systematic procedure: one or two fields describe the client, one or two fields describe the operating system, some fields describe the type and subtype of events, a time stamp, and some pseudonymous identifiers, such as a UUID, userID, meeting_id, and a couple more. Customers’ Content – such as their profile names, meeting names, and other customer-supplied information – is not included in Telemetry Data.

All events share the same telemetry data fields

Zoom collects this information for all events.

  • Event time
  • Client type
  • Event location
  • Event
  • Subevent
  • UUID
  • Client version
  • UserID
  • Client OS
  • Meeting ID

Telemetry Events

A type of event as well as a type of subevent are denoted below as “Event.Subevent”. There will be information included in each Event.Subevent about individual telemetry fields that will be collected as part of that particular event. As a result, there is a special field included in each Event.Subevent, as well as the potential values that could be entered into the special field as well as its description. It is clear that if “none” is selected on the list, only the common telemetry datasets will be collected as described in the previous section.
