How to download the Alexa app on a mobile device

The following instructions will guide you through the process of downloading and installing the Alexa app on your mobile device. Upon installation, sign in or create a new account if you do not already have one.

How to connect your calendar in the Alexa app

It is recommended that you connect your calendar to the Alexa app in order to be able to join meetings easily. When you say Alexa, “Alexa start my Zoom meeting,” Alexa will be able to respond with the appropriate command for you to start your Zoom meeting.

In order to use Zoom meetings, you will need to locate the calendar you would like to use. The following steps will guide you through the process of connecting your calendar to the Alexa app:

  1. Click on the Alexa app to open it.
  2. Go to More and select Settings from the drop-down menu.
  3. Tap on Calendar & Email at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Then tap on Connect Account, and you will be able to select your account provider.
  5. Once you have linked your calendar, you will need to follow the on-screen instructions. If you would like to link more than one calendar, you will need to repeat these steps.
Note : The calendar account that you link to Alexa will in turn store a copy of the calendar on the cloud so in the future you will be able to access the calendar using Alexa. It is possible for anyone using your Alexa device to view content from your calendar.

It should be noted that Alexa automatically enables any calendars that you subscribe to in Google Calendar as well by default. It is important that you disable all calendars that you do not wish to use for joining meetings in the future.

How to set up your Fire TV with your Alexa account

When you have unboxed your Fire TV and completed the physical setup of your device, you will need to follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup of your Fire TV.

It is important that you also connect the external webcam device, as that is also required for the normal operation of the TV. There is a direct connection between the webcam and the Fire TV Cube when using the Fire TV Cube.
Note: There may be a need for a USB adapter.

How to install the Zoom app

  1. The Fire TV App Store can be accessed via the Fire TV remote.
  2. Install the Zoom app by searching for it in your app store and selecting it from the list.

It is also possible to ask “Alexa, find Zoom” as an alternative.

In order to get the best experience from Zoom for Home, it’s a good idea to sign in if you already have a Zoom account. You can easily sign in to Zoom for Home by simply saying “Alexa, open the Zoom app” and then following the instructions here for setting up Zoom for Home.

How to use Zoom on Fire TV

You can begin instant meetings with Zoom on your FireTV device, join meetings on your desktop client, share content from your desktop client to your FireTV display, and view contacts just like in a Zoom Room.

There are three ways in which you can join a meeting on Fire TV:

  • In order to do this, please provide the meeting ID
  • It is possible to access your Alexa calendar from your Google Calendar
  • As long as your Zoom account is associated with a calendar, you will be able to access it

Joining meetings without signing in

When you say “Alexa, join my Zoom meeting” you will be prompted to enter a meeting ID and password, and Alexa will ask you for the meeting ID and password as soon as possible. The Zoom for Home app will open automatically on your device if Alexa is unable to determine your meeting ID and passcode after one attempt. From here you can manually join your meeting by using the controller in conjunction with Zoom for Home.
Note: Meeting IDs that begin with an alphanumeric character are not supported.

Joining meetings from your linked calendar through Alexa

Using Alexa in conjunction with your calendar, you will be able to join upcoming Zoom meetings with a simple command. Simply say, “Alexa, join my meeting.” and Alexa will parse the join details from your calendar and start the meeting for you.

Joining meetings from the calendar associated with your Zoom account

Whenever you open the Zoom app on your Fire TV by using the Alexa voice command, you will be able to see your upcoming meetings on screen when you ask the Echo to open the Zoom app. From the Zoom home app page, you can select the join button to join an upcoming meeting on the screen.
