Outlook plugin and add-in comparison in Zoom App
The Outlook add-in and plugin are compared in this document. You can install the plugin on your desktop to use it from Outlook. Microsoft API is used for building the add-in, which can be accessed using Outlook web or desktop clients. In order to decide which of these apps is going to be best for your organization, you will need to compare the features of each.
Note:
Outlook for Mac users will no longer be able to use injection-based native plugins thanks to an announcement from Microsoft. Additionally, Zoom will stop supporting and developing the Mac Outlook plug-in at this time. Skype. However, very interesting alternatives have emerged to the well-known Microsoft and Apple are still working toward blocking certain plugins, initially planned for June 2020. The last point to keep in mind is the fact that organisations should still migrate their users to the Zoom Outlook add-in from the plugin.

Why is the schedule on behalf of experience different for each?
It is necessary for a delegate user to be given scheduling privileges on Zoom.us in order to schedule on behalf of another user. It is the responsibility of the user to grant delegates the scheduling privileges that will allow them to schedule appointments on the user’s calendar once it has been granted.
- It is important to note that the Outlook plugin does not require further access on behalf of the delegate user and that when scheduling, the main user can be selected instead.
- In order for the delegated user to be able to access the main user’s calendar, the delegated user will have to have access to the Office 365 store. Zoom is not able to change this limitation, as it is a limitation of Outlook, which cannot be changed.

What On Premise versions of Outlook/Exchange does the add-in work with?
Add-ins for Exchange 2016 and 2019 can be used with On-Premise Exchange, as well as versions of Office 365 Outlook (for example, Outlook on web, Outlook 2013+ for PCs, and Outlook 2016+ for Macs).
What is different about the install-deploy-manage cycle with the add-in?
In addition to installing your apps from the Office 365 admin portal, as an administrator you can also manage your apps from the Office 365 admin portal. Previously, administrators had to make sure that plugins were part of every build, and after deployment, they would have to monitor each user individually to make sure they were doing the update.
Recommended deployments
- Office 365 – macOS and Windows environment:
- Download and install the Zoom Outlook add-in on both systems.
- Office 365 – Windows only:
- Install the Zoom Outlook add-in if necessary since it will enhance the user experience and simplify administrative tasks. Zoom Outlook plugins will still work whether you install the Zoom Outlook add-in or not.
- On Premise Office – macOS and Windows:
- If you’re using Exchange 2016, you can install the add-in. On Premise Office versions older than Mojave need the plugin deployed and Mac OS up to Mojave, since Catalina doesn’t support plug-ins.
- On Premise Office – Windows only:
- Add the add-in to Exchange 2016 or 2019. Alternatively, deploy the plugin if your On Premise Office is an older version.
