Sending a screen capture, file, reaction, or audio in Zoom App
Additionally, Zoom Chat offers you the capability to send screenshots, images, files, and chat reactions to your chat contacts, group chats, and channels in addition to messaging. As well as Zoom’s standard chat encryption, these features are also available for Zoom’s advanced chat encryption as well.
The Zoom desktop client and mobile app also offer the option of sending and playing video files through chat.
Notes:
- Files up to 512MB in size are supported by this application.
- In order to control the types of files that their users can send and receive, account owners and administrators can set up file transfer controls that specify the types of files and file size limits.

Prerequisites for sending screen captures, files, photos, and celebration reactions
- Client for Zoom desktop
- App for Zoom on mobile devices
- It is recommended that you use Android 5.2.0 or higher
- It is recommended that you use iOS version 5.2.0 or higher
- Chat features should be enabled by the administrator in order to use them
How to send files and images in Zoom Chat
Windows | macOS
- Using the Zoom desktop client, sign in to your account.
- Open the chat window where the screenshot, image, or other file needs to be sent and click on the send button. The following methods can be used to start a new chat session:
- To start a new chat with a contact you have already chatted with, click the Add icon next to the Recent section.
- To view the chat history of a contact, click on the contact’s name under Recent and you will be able to continue to chat with them. Before the name of a contact, there is an icon that represents their status.
- To view the chat history for a channel (indicated by the group icon before the name), click the group icon under Recent. To send a message to channel members, click the group icon under Recent.
- The chat icon can be found on the Contacts tab by hovering over the name of a contact and clicking on it.
- Depending on what you want to send, you can choose one of the following sections:
Send a screenshot
- In the chat box, click on the Screenshot button.
- The easiest way to capture a section of your screen is to use your mouse to click and drag. Then click anywhere on the screen and add any annotations you want, such as arrows, lines, boxes, or text.
- Click on the Capture button.
In the chat window, you will be able to see the content you have captured after you have captured it. - The screenshot can be accompanied by any text that you want to accompany it (optional).
- Send your message by pressing the Enter key.
Send a file
Note: It is possible that the admin of your account has restricted who you are allowed to send and receive files from.
- Alternatively, you can click and drag the file to the chat box from the File menu above the chat box.
- Choose the file source from the list.
Note: There is also the option to select a third-party service, if your admin has enabled integrations with third-party file sharing services. - Select the file you wish to send from the file system by browsing through the file system.
If you would like to cancel the upload of the file after it has been uploaded, click * when it has been uploaded. - The file can be accompanied by any text that you like (optional).
- Send the message by pressing the Enter key.
A green checkbox will appear in the chat window to indicate that the file has been successfully sent along with the name of the file. The image you sent will appear directly in the chat window if you sent an image.
Note: In the event that you send a video file, the recipient will be able to play the video directly from the chat window if it is a video file.
Send a celebration reaction
The message will be displayed in the chat box if you enter a Happy Birthday or a Happy Anniversary. In your chat window, you will be able to see the reaction for a short time.
Note: A version of 5.11.0 or higher is required in order to run the Happy Anniversary reaction.
Linux
- Open the Zoom desktop client and sign in with your Zoom account.
- In order to send the screenshot, image, or file, you need to open the chat in which you want to send it. In order to start a new chat, you can use the following methods:
- If you would like to start a new chat with one of your contacts, you can click the Add icon next to Recent to do so.
- You can view your chat history by clicking a contact under Recent, or you can continue conversing with them by clicking the contact. The name of the contact is accompanied by a status icon.
- It is possible to view the chat history of a channel (indicated by the group icon before its name) under Recent, as well as send messages to members of the channel by clicking the channel icon.
- Click the chat icon to begin a conversation when you hover over the name of a contact on the Contacts tab.
- Depending on what you are sending, you will need to follow one of the sections below:
Send a screenshot
- Click Son the Screenshot button above the chat box to see the screenshot.
- If you want to capture a portion of your screen, you need to click and drag your mouse around the area you want to capture.
- Click on the Send button.
In the chat window, you will be able to see the content you selected as soon as you have captured it.
Send a file
Note: It is possible that the admin of your account has restricted who you are allowed to send and receive files from.
- Using the file button above the chat box, or clicking and dragging the file to the window, you can navigate to the file.
- You will be able to select the source of the file.
- Select the file you want to send from the file system by browsing the file system and selecting it.
You can cancel the upload when the file has been uploaded by clicking * when the file has been uploaded. - The selected file can be sent by pressing the Open button.
A green checkbox will indicate that the file has been sent successfully if the file name is displayed in the chat window. Whenever you send an image, the image will appear directly in the chat window if you have sent an image.

- Open the Zoom mobile app and sign in with your Zoom account.
- The screenshot, image, or file you would like to send should be opened in the chat where you are sending it. If you would like to start a new chat, you can do so using the following methods:
- In the top-right corner of the Meet & Chat screen, there is a pencil icon that can be tapped to edit the information.
- When you are in Contacts, tap the name of a contact, and then tap Chat to begin a conversation.
Send a screenshot
A screenshot must be taken using the device’s settings to be able to be sent. Following this is the procedure that must be followed to send an image using your device.
Send an image
- You will need to tap the plus sign.
- Then tap on Photo Album.
- To select each image, tap on the circle in the center of the image.
- Don’t forget to tap the Done button.
In the case of sending images to a channel or contact, the image(s) will be sent immediately.
Use the camera to take and send a photo
- Tap the plus sign at the bottom of the screen.
- To take a picture, tap the Take a Photo button.
- Take a picture using the phone‘s built-in camera by using the camera button on the phone.
- If you want to send, click Confirm, or if you want to retake, click Retake.
There is an immediate transfer of the image(s) to the contact or channel after you click the send button.
Send a file
- You will need to tap the plus sign.
- Click on the Send a File button.
- Tap on the location of the file where you want to save it.
- Choose the file you want to send from your computer and tap the send button. You will be prompted to sign in if you select a third-party service like Dropbox, and Zoom will be able to access your account once you are signed in.
- Click on the Send button.
- If the file was successfully sent, a check box will appear in the chat window with the name of the file and an indication that it was successfully sent.
Note: It will be possible for recipients to play a video file directly within the chat window when sending a video file.
Send a celebration reaction
The message will be displayed in the chat box if you enter a Happy Birthday or a Happy Anniversary. In your chat window, you will be able to see the reaction for a short time.

Where do Zoom screen recordings go?
Whenever you record a Zoom meeting on your Android device, it will be available on Zoom’s website, so you can find it there. Sign in to the Zoom website by going to zoom.us. Then, you will be able to access the system where you can record a meeting by clicking on ‘Recordings’ on the left side of the screen.
