How to enable Breakout Room in Zoom
Introduction to Zoom Breakout Room
- Can be divided into up to 50 sessions
- Up to 200 participants in one break room (requires a large meeting 200 add-ons)
- Breakout room attendees have full audio, video and screen sharing capabilities
- The meeting host can choose to split the participants into separate sessions automatically or manually.
Prerequisites
- Zoom account
- The Zoom application is running version 3.5.31149.1102 or later
- Remote support is turned off
Note:
Zoom Rooms, H.323, and SIP devices can not participate in breakout rooms.
However, the main room can be used as an alternative session for these users.

Enable breakout room on Your Zoom Account
Enable Breakout Rooms at the Account level
- Log in to the Zoom web portal as an administrator with permission to edit account settings and click Account Settings.
- [ Meeting [of] tab breakout room to move to the option, make sure that the setting is enabled.
- If the setting is disabled, enable the toggle. When the authentication dialog appears, click to turn on and select], to validate the change.
(Optional) To require this setting for all users in your account, click the lock icon and lock it.

- Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an administrator with permission to edit user groups and click Group Management.
- Click the name of the group and then click the Group Settings tab.
- Go to the Breakout Room option on the Meeting tab and make sure the settings are enabled.
If the setting is disabled, enable the toggle. When the authentication dialog appears, click to turn on and select], to validate the change.
Note: If the option is grayed out, it is locked at the account level and needs to be changed at that level.

To enable the breakout room feature for yourself
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal, [ My Meetings Settings ] and click (in the case of account members).
- Go to the Breakout Room option on the Meeting tab and make sure the settings are enabled.
If the setting is disabled, enable the toggle. When the authentication dialog appears, click to turn on and select], to validate the change.
Note: If the option is grayed out, it is locked at the group or account level and you need to contact your Zoom administrator.
